Paragon Microwave Motion Sensors
Microwave motion sensors
Before the invention of motion sensors, individuals are required to reach for the switch, to turn on or off a device manually. The need to reach out to the switch to turn on or off a device manually has definitely ought about levels of inefficiency and inconvenience to users.
But as technology, the desire to accomplish more with less has extended to a wide array of applications, such as the invention of motion sensors.
How does Microwave Motion Sensors operate?
Motion sensors operate on the principle of “Doppler Effect”. To put it simply, a microwave motion sensor emits microwave signals continuously. These signals will return to the sensor in consistent intervals based on the objects in the room. If motion occurs, the timing of these signals will be interrupted, once the sensor detects a change in the rebounded signals, it will trigger a signal to the system.
When a microwave motion detector is operating in an environment with absolutely no motion, the sensor will only detect one consistent pattern. This is because the microwave signals will bounce off of any objects or structures in the area and return to the sensor in the same way every single time. If this is the case, the sensor will assume that no motion is present and that everything is fine.
But if a person or an object were to suddenly enter into the area, then the microwave signals would return to the sensor at a different time interval. This is due to the fact that the signals would bounce off the person or object and change their previous pattern. This change in signal path would be recognized by the microwave sensor, and an alarm would occur. However, this change must be significant enough for an alarm to occur. Small changes, such as an insect or falling leaves probably wouldn’t set off the motion detector.
Microwave Motion Sensor Lighting Applications
By now we know the basis of how does a microwave motion sensor operate, we shall take a look at where can these sensors be installed to ing convenience, safety and security to your home, office, warehouse and etc…
Sensors can be installed in a wide array of locations, such as:
Staircase
Corridors
Carparks
Storerooms
Pantry
Toilets
Classrooms
Warehouse
Walkway
* The above are some suggestions to where sensors can be installed, and is not limited to these areas only.
Some pointers to take note, before deciding on where to install motion sensors.
Convenience: There are times when we are in a rush that we forgot to switch off the lights, this lead to unnecessary use of electricity and reduce the lifespan of luminaires. With motion sensors installed, when it does not detect any movement over a period of time, it will send a signal to switch the luminaire off. Saving energy and reducing carbon footprint.
Safety : Motion sensor placed in the middle of the hallway connecting individuals to bathroom or kitchen, connecting individuals from stumbling over or onto something that might cause a loud yelp in the middle of the night.
Security : Living in a quiet estate, and looking for ways to ward off any uninvited guests? Install a motion sensor outside of any entrances, is a good way to deter any potential threats or suspicious visitors in the middle of the night.
Adjustable functions
The settings available on the Paragon Microwave Motion Sensors are fairly straightforward. The three main functions available are as follows: Hold time, Detection area and Daylight sensor .
Hold time: Luminaire will remain on over a period, eg. 5 secs to 30 mins, during this hold time if no movement is detected, sensor will send a signal to switch off the luminaire.
Detection area: Sensor is able to detect a range of distance to suit user’s preference. As an overly sensitive sensor can ing more inconvenience rather than convenience to users.
Daylight sensor: Prevents creating an overly ight ambience by turning on lights unnecessarily, when ambient light is ight enough to support the intended function. When there is sufficient ambient light present, light will not turn on. Light will only turn on when ambient light falls below its set threshold.
